Abstract
Acetonitrile was found to be the best organic solvent for the preparative scale-hydroxylation of various phenols by the photodecomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Irradiation of the system with the light at 2537 Å resulted in the formation of ortho-and para-dihydroxy compounds as the main product.
