Abstract
Some of the phenanthrene derivatives which contain the pharmacologically interesting hydroxyethylamino side chain,-CHOH-CH2-NR2 (RH or produce in the cat a typical morphine-like excitement, dilatation of the pupils and marked analge~ ia.~ Since there is but little doubt that the phenolic hydroxyl group in position 3 in morphine plays an essential role in the physiological action of this alkaloid, it seemed necessary to follow the change in the ...
