Abstract

The dilithio-derivative of prop-2-yn-1-01 in liquid ammonia-tetrahydrofuran condenses with undecyl and tridecyl bromide to give the corresponding alk-2-yn-1-01 in high yield. Conversion into the bromide and malonation synthesis yields hexa-and octa-dec-kynoic acid and thence the cis-olefinic acids. Prop-2-yn-1-01, but-3-yn-1-01, and pent-lyn-1-01 similarly condense with o-bromo-acids to give o-hydroxy-alkynoic acids in good yields. ...
