Abstract The reaction of phenyl (dibromochloromethyl) mercury and phenyl (tribromomethyl) mercury with organosilicon and organogermanium hydrides gave bromochloromethyl-and dibromomethyl-substituted derivatives of silicon and germanium via dihalocarbene insertion into the Si H and Ge H bonds.
