Abstract
3004 HAROLD E. ZAUGG AND BRUCE w. HORROM Vol. 72 methanol containing sodium methoxide prepared from 0.92 g.(0.04 mole) of sodium, resulted in the formation of 0.8 g. of unsaponifiable oil (22y0 calculated as 1, l-diphenylethylene) and 2.7 g.(64%) of diphenylacetic acid, mp 143-146'(after saponification of the ester).
