Abstract
A new mechanism for the addition-oxidation reaction of benzoquinone and hydrogen cyanide is proposed. The synthesis of 2, 3-dicyanobenzohydroquinones and 2, 3-dicyano- naphtho-hydroquinones by means of substitution under reductive conditions (2, 3- dihaloquinone, cyanide, alcohol) is described.
