Abstract

The oxidation is accompanied by the occurrence of a purple colourlo. This has been ascribed to the presence of a radical cation 8 as detected by ESRl'. An analogous intermediate has been supposed by Urry and Sheeto'j in the oxidation of tetrakis (dimethylamino) ethylene(1).
