Abstract

Besides the expected-SS-and Ph* CH,-S-cleavage, rd-cystine-3-phenylhydantoin (I)* and S- benzyl-~-cysteine-3-phenylhydantoin undergo a novel reduction at the 4-position when treated with sodium in liquid ammonia, giving substituted tetrahydro-2-oxoglyoxalines.
