Abstract

Amides and sulfonamides are converted to the corresponding acids by nitrosonium tetrafluoroborate (or related stable nitrosonium hexafluorophosphate, hexafluoroantimonate, hexafluoroarsenate, and bisulfate) at low temperatures and in organic solvent system. Sterically hindered amides react generally with ease and good yields, although higher reaction temperatures are needed.
