The reaction of pyrroles with formaldehyde and primary amines was investigated. 2, 3- Dihydro-lH-imidazo [1.5-a]-pyrroles were prepared directly from 3-carbethoxy-2, 4- dimethylpyrrole and also from the corresponding 2-(N-substituted aminomethyl)-pyrroles. The reactions and interrelationships of these products were studied.
