Abstract

It has been generally recognized that the catalytic hydrogenation of substituted compounds is usually more difficult than in the case of the simpler compounds. Whether this apparent lowering in reactivity is due to spatial effects or otherwise is uncertain, but it seems worth while to study rather completely and carefully the hydrogenation of compounds which may be considered to fall into this group.
