Abstract: Oxidation of zinc octaethylporphyrin with thallium (II1) trifluoroacetate yields two dimeric 5, 15-dioxoporphodimethenes with direct linkages between methine bridge carbon atoms C-10'and C-102.[Indexes 1 and 2 relate to the dioxoporphodimethene units throughout this paper.] One is the symmetric dimer in a gauche conformation; the other is an unsymmetric tautomer.
