Abstract The acidic functionalized ionic liquid 1-(4-sulfonic group) butyl-3-methylpyrazine tetrafluoroborate (abbreviated as [4-sulfbmpyrazine][BF4]) was employed as the catalyst of the condensation of aromatic aldehyde and diols.
