Abstract

Abstract Carbon-supported rhodium catalysts yield substantially more of the product of C− O bond scission (3, see figure) than the alumina-supported rhodium catalysts in the liquid- phase hydrogenation of 1-indanol (1). The high C− O bond scission capability of the carbon- supported catalysts is due to direct hydrogenolysis that occurs on the carbon support with spillover hydrogen.
