Abstract

The preferential hydrolysis of the a-bromine atom of 4-(a, 6-dibromopropyl)-guaiacol benzoate was accomplished by refluxing for eighteen hours a solution of 5 g. of the dibromide in 30 ml. of 95% ethanol, 30 ml. of acetone, and 30 ml. of water with 5 g. of calcium carbonate. The filtrate on vac~ ium concentration yielded an oil whose ether solution was washed well with water, treated with Norit and dried over sodium sulfate. ...
