Abstract

Facile reduction of (imine) Pt (IV) compounds [PtCl4 (NH CRR') 2] with the ylides Ph3P CHCO2R in nonaqueous media opens up a route to (imine) Pt (II) complexes which are unaccessible by direct synthesis from platinum (II) precursors. The reaction is extended to a variety of other Pt (II)/Pt (IV) couples.
