Homopiperazine has been synthesized in a yield of about 32% by a new method involving the catalytic reductive cyclization of N-(2-~ yanoethyl) ethylenediamine. 1-, 2-, 5-, and &methylhomopiperazine, the four possible monomethylhomopiperazines, were prepared analogously. N-(2'-Aminoethyl)-1, 3-propanediamine and its monomethyl derivatives were formed as co-products in 28 to 50% yields.
