Abstract Reaction of trichloroacetaldehyde and acrylonitrile in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper (I) chloride in ionic liquid afforded 2, 3, 5??trichloropyridine, fluorination of which with KF and CsF in ionic liquid afforded 3, 5??dichloro??2??fluoropyridine and 5??chloro?? 2, 3??dichloropyridine.
