Abstract This paper describes a method for the chemical synthesis of 7α, 12α-dihydroxy-4- cholesten-3-one (1a) and its biological precursor, 7α-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one (1b), both of which are key intermediates in the major pathway of bile acid biosynthesis from cholesterol.
