Abstract

Use of copper (1)-nitrogen ligand catalysts such as Ph3PCuC1. bpy (3), Ph3PCuC1. phen (4), Ph3PCuC1-phtha (5), and Ph3PCuBr. py (6) enables the photochemical isomerization of norbornadiene to quadricyclane to be performed at a longer wavelength than 350 nm, at which CuCl catalyst itself cannot induce such an isomerization.
