Abstract The preparations and X-ray crystal structures of the first transition metal complexes of 1, 3-bis (8-quinolyloxy) propane (2) are described. The ligand acts as a trans-chelating N, N′-bidentate ligand in the three-coordinate silver (I) nitrate complex (3) and four-coordinate copper (II) chloride complex (4), but as an N, O, O′, N′-tetradentate ligand in the octahedral nickel (II) chloride complex (5).
