Abstract: The cyclic sulfuranyl radical 2 is generated by the low-temperature photolysis of tert- butylperoxy 2-(methylsu1fenyl) benzoate (1) in methylene chloride solutions. The ESR spectrum of 2, centered at (g)= 2.008,,, shows proton hyperfine splittings by a methyl group (a3H= 9.0 G) and H6 (aH= 1.5 G) but no resolved coupling (CO. 1 G) to other protons.
