A synthesis of tris (crown formazan) from the corresponding hexakis ( acetamidophenoxymethyl) benzene by hydrolysis with an ethanolic solution containing hydrochloric acid followed by diazotization and subsequent coupling with cyanoacetic acid in pyridine containing CuSO4 is described.
