Abstract

Reaction of 4-bromobenzotrifluoride with 2-hydroxymethylthiophenol yielded 2-(4- trifluoromethylphenylthio) benzyl alcohol (III) which was converted in three steps to 2-(4- trifluoromethylphenylthio) phenylacetic acid (VI). This acid is cycIized with liquid hydrogen fluoride to 8-trifluoromethyl-lO, ll-dihydrodibenzo [b, flthiepin-lO-one (VIII).
