A new synthesis of as-triazines has been developed which involves Michael addition of diethyl azodicarboxylate to acyclic enamines, followed by base-catalyzed ring closure. By an appropriate choice of the enamine, as-triazines suihbly substituted for subsequent annelation of a fused pyrimidine ring may be prepared. We describe in this paper the synthesis of B number of pyrimido [4, 5-e]-as-triazines (6-aaapteridines), including 2- ...
