Abstract

Lactones and their derivatives are important natural products as well as useful intermediates in the synthesis of other natural products. For example, lactones such as 4-decanolide (4a), 5-decanolide (4b), 5-dodecanolide (4c), are 6-decanolide (4e) are widely found in flavors and fragrances, and 5-hexadecanolide (4d) has been isolated from the oriental hornet Vespa orientalis1 in pheromone.
