Abstract

Solvent.-N, N-Dimethylacetamide, N, N-dimethylformamide, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, nitrobenzene, nitromethane, and nitroethane were examined. When either N, N- dimethylacetamide, N, N-dimethylformamide, or acetonitrile was used, the insertion reaction occured. Without the solvent, however, a glassy polymer is obtained on heating the mixture with or without ethylene oxide. The yield of p-chloroethyl benzyl ether under optimum ...
