Abstract

The reaction of carbon monoxide at elevated pressures and temperatures with the S- potassium salts of various 2-and 3-substituted indole derivatives has been investigated. The results indicate that the indole carbonylation reaction, as it is termed, can be used to prepare 3-indolecarboxaldehydes provided the 2-position is not too hindered sterically or substituted with electron-withdrawing groups.
