Abstract Alkaline hydrolysis of mono-and dinitro derivatives of five-membered heterocycles, viz., pyrazole, imidazole, 1, 2, 4-triazole, and isoxazole, is accompanied by the elimination of the nitro group in the form of a nitrite anion.
