The reaction of trichloro-and tribromoacetic acids with some imines (the derivatives of aromatic aldehydes and aliphatic as well as some aromatic amines) has been investigated. It has been found that these acids when heated in an organic solvent react with the imines with evolution of carbon dioxide and in the majority of cases the formation of 1, 1, 1,- trihalogeno-2-aminoethane derivatives in good yield. A mechanism has been proposed ...
