Summary: Treatment of a-(3-hydroxypropyl)-a-(tri-methylsilyl) epoxides with KH in THF cleanly provides a-alkylidenetetrahydrofurans in high yields with 295% retention of stereochemistry, while epoxidation of y-(tri-methylsily1)-y, d-unsaturated carboxylic acids
