Abstract

1, 5-Difluoro-and 1, 5-dichloro-naphthalene on treatment with excess of phenyl-lithium in ether yield mixtures of 1, 5-, 1, 6-, and 2, 6-diphenylnaphthalenes. It is concluded that 1, 5- elimnation of lithium halide to give a 1, 6-didehydro [10] annulene intermediate does not occur.
