Abstract

The reaction of α-diketones with various primary heteroaromatic amines including pyridine, diazine, and azole derivatives has been studied. Benzils react with 2-amino-pyridines to give 2, 2-diarylimidazo [1, 2-a] pyridin-3 (2H)-ones 1 as stable products, in good yields. With the other aminoheterocycles only N-heteroaryl-α-iminoketones 4 are obtained when the reaction takes place. On the contrary, biacetyl and 1-phenyl-1, 2-propanedione react only ...
