Abstract A new method is described for the synthesis of 1-bromoalkyl carbonates which consists of reacting the corresponding 1-chloroalkyl carbonate with a volatile electrophilic bromine containing reagent (E-Br) and a catalyst. The equilibrium is driven to product by removal of the E-C1 formed.
