A novel halogen exchange reaction was found to accompany condensation of an acyl chloride with N-bis (2-bromoethyl) amine. Reaction between an acyl bromide and N-bis (2- bromoethyl) amine, however, gave the expected N-bis (2-bromoethyl) amide.
