The preparation and the ultraviolet spectra of twelve 5 (6)-nitro-, or 5 (6)-amino-2-(5-X-2- furyl)-benzimidazoles, where X= H, CH3, CI, Br, J, COOCH3, is described. The question of the existence of 5-, or 6-nitro-2-furyl-substituted benzimidazoles was also investigated on the basis of the transformation of their structure and by means of deuteriations and infrared spectroscopy in the 3400-3150cm-1 region.
