1, 2, 7, 8-and 1, 3, 6, 8-Tetramethylcarbazole have been isolated from a fraction of a Kuwait mineral oil and identified by comparison with synthetic specimens obtained by photocyclisation of tetramethyldiphenylamines. A pentamethylcarbazole was also isolated, and was not identical with synthetic 1, 2, 3, 5, 7-pentamethylcarbazole.
