Summary Substituted 2-bromopyridines have been oxidized to the corresponding 2- bromopyridine-N-oxides by perbenzoic acid or peracetic acid. The labilized bromine atom was readily replaced by alkaline reagents; treatment with sodium hydroxide yielded the cyclic hydroxamic acid, while treatment with sodium hyctrosulfide or sodium sulfide gave the thio analog.
