Alkyl N-cyanoimidates, a new class of reactive intermediates, have been prepared by reaction of cyanamide with ortho esters or imidate hydrochlorides. The S-cyanoimidates react with amidines to give 2-amino-striazines, with amidoximes to give 2-amino-s-triazine 1- oxides, with hydroxylamine to give 5-amino-1, 2, 4-nadiazoles, and with hydrazine to give 3- amino-1, 2, 4-triazoles.
