Abstract

The hydrogenation of cholesterol in glacial acetic acid at 65-75'to produce cholestanol has been described by Bruce. la Attempts to repeat the procedure in This Laboratory invariably led to incomplete hydrogenation. The products, cholestanol and its acetate, began to crystallize from the sol-vent as the reduction approached 75% of completion,(1)(a) WF Bruce," Organic Syntheses," Coll.
