Abstract The regioselectivity of the reaction between benzaldehyde and the silylketene acetal prepared from trimethylsilylsenecioate is studied as a function of the catalyst used. CsF leads exclusively to the “branched” product whereas TiCl 4 gives the required “linear” hydroxy acid.
