We wish to report the synthesis of a number of new substituted triphenylpropionic acid deriva- tives ofthe type 4-XC6H,(4'-YC,H,)C6H,CCH2- C02R. In a recent publication Snyder (1) has pointed out that the 'H nuclear magnetic reson- ance (nmr) spectra of compounds of this class might be of interest, since any magnetic non- equivalence observed for the methylene protons could be attributed to an "asymmetry effect".'
