Abstract

Mixtures of AlMe3 and excess MeAl (BHT) 2 are shown to contain greatly reduced levels of AlMe3 through reversible formation of Me2Al (BHT). Neither of these sterically hindered aluminum alkyls strongly inhibit olefin polymerization involving metallocene catalysts nor readily degrade ion-pairs and activators, as observed with simple AlR3.
