A facile synthesis of ([8] annulene) uranium (IV) dichloride (1) has been developed via the reduction of cyclooctatetraene (COT) by UC13 or through reaction of UC4, COT, and NaH. The activation parameters for the coordination of trimethylphosphine (PMe,) to 1 in THF solution have been measured.
