Abstract: Decomposition of rert-butylperoxy 3-(l-phenylcyclopropyl) propanoate (4), 4-(l- phenylcyclopropyl)-butanoate (141, and 5-(l-phenylcyclopropyl) pentanoate (29) yields the corresponding alkyl radicals which are studied by esr; the barrier to rotation about C, C, for the alkyl radicals produced from 4 and 14 gives a distinct inequivalency in the/3 hydrogens.
