Abstract

The zwitterion, 1-(Xe+) C6F4-4-(BF3−), was obtained as the main product from the 1: 1 reaction of xenon difluoride and bifunctional 1, 4-(F2B) 2C6F4. The tetrafluoroborate salt of the dixenonium cation,[1, 4-(Xe) 2C6F4] 2+, in the product mixture of the corresponding 2: 1 reaction was enriched by extraction with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and characterized by multi-NMR spectroscopy and chemical transformation to 1, 4-I2C6F4.
