Abstract

The characterization of an unusual class of compounds from the two-electron oxidation of 1, l-dialkylhydrazines in acid is discussed. Spectrophotometric data support the tentative conclusion of R, N'+= NH for the structure of the conjugate acid of the corresponding diazene R* N+= N-and suggest the formation of an ion pair (R* N+= NH) Cl-or a covalent compound R&+(C1) NH in aqueous hydrochloric acid.
