Abstract

Mammals have several enzyme systems for the detoxification of cyanide, a militarylcivilian threat agent of contemporary concern, viz., rhodanase (thiosulfate: cyanide sulfurtransferase; EC 2.8. 1.1)'and p-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3- mercaptopyruvate: cyanide sulfurtransferase, EC 2.8. 1.2), Is2 both enzymes catalyzing the conversion of cyanide to the non-toxic thiocyanate, the latter being excreted in the urine. ...
