Abstract

In a collateral experiment, 2 was treated with cyclopropylmagnesium bromidee2HMPA and gave a 35% yield of the 2-cyclopropylmethyloxazine (1, R= CH~-CC~ H~), 48% recovered starting material, and only 17% of the bis (oxaziny1) ethylene 11. This is consistent with the increased s character of the cyclopropyl carbanion whose base strength should lie somewhere between those of an aliphatic and an aromatic Grignard reagent.
