Abstract

Summary Sodium bicarbonate, in aqueous solution, has been converted to sodium formate by hydrogenation over ten different catalyst. Nickel-containing catalysts appear to be the most effective type amotlg those tested. Catalyst concentration, hydrogen pressure, reaction temperature, reaction time and solution concentration have been shown to effect the conversion of sodium carbonate to sodium formate over a nickel catalyst.
